With the opening of the Gibson Center for the Arts in Fall 2009, Washington College unveiled its first dedicated art gallery. The Kohl Gallery, funded by Washington College parents Benjamin and Judy Kohl, is located on the first floor of the Gibson Center for the Arts. Visiting exhibitions, as well as student and faculty shows, are on public display throughout the year.
The College's first climate-controlled, securable space reserved solely for the exhibition of fine art, the Kohl Gallery is a 1,200-square-foot facility equipped with the environmental controls and security devices required to host significant traveling exhibitions.
ArtNOW
Washington College announces a new series of exhibits at the Kohl Gallery. ArtNOW will focus on the work of the best young and emerging artists in cities in the region, focusing first on Baltimore, then Philadelphia in 2013 and Washington DC in 2014. Working with curators and art critics from the specific city we will identify the most promising young artists to bring selected works to the Kohl Gallery for a group show. These young artists will also work with Washington College art students in a variety of ways throughout the run of the exhibit – giving master classes or critiques. They will also give gallery talks about their work, which will be open to the public. ArtNOW: Baltimore opens Friday, February 10, 2012, with a reception 5 – 7 pm, and closes March 30.
